I came across Tanuki Raw while scrolling the Popular feed page on Instagram. I personally love everything Japanese. My teenage years were filled with weekends on the couch with my Chinese friends, all eyes glued to the tv while having Anime marathons. Or learning how to roll the perfect Hosomaki sushi. I dropped my fiancé a text, and told him we had a Japanese date on Saturday.

T (let's call my fiancé that from now on) and me are small eaters. (Actually we are on a diet😂). I ordered the Hokkaido Kaisen Don ($39) while T ordered the Salted Duck Egg Char Siew Donburi ($18) along with a side of Spam Wham ($13.90) to share. Mine was a tad bit expensive as it was a "Featured Donburi" alongside the Foie Gras Scallop & Unagi bowl ($31.90).

As you can see, my bowl was filled to the brim with one too many premium ingredients such as Uni, Scallop, Marinated Ikura, Snow Crab, Salmon and Shredded Tamago. Pretty colourful and I loved their food plating - just the way it would have been done in Japan.

No more delaying and I immediately got down to mixing up my ingredients to fully incorporate them with Tanuki Raw's Signature Rice, piled at the bottom of the bowl. I was transported away to Japan at first bite! The flavours were so intense - I could feel the ikura popping itself with each bite, sweetness of the snow crab infused with a sudden rush of spiciness from the wasabi. And the salmon; so buttery with a robust flavour. Just take my money already!

T was blown away with the Spam Wham - Deep Fried Spams topped with a dollop of Guacamole, Chopped white onions, Diced tomatoes, Black Garlic Brown Butter Gravy, Sour Cream and Umami Cheese. Very much Mexican indeed.

Almost everyone around us were having the Salted Duck Egg Char Siew Donburi. Imagine local Hawker fare with a Japanese twist. With all the sudden craze of Salted Egg going on, I have to agree this infusion was a pretty good one. The meat was extremely tender; mix the whole bowl up and what you are gonna taste next, will be lingering on your tastebuds for a pretty long time. And make you gobble it down quick, Salted egg don't taste so good when it's cold.

Overall, we had a great meal and would definitely be back again. And the next time, to try out their Drinks and also their Maki Sushi.

About Me

Billionaire. Philanthropist. Gregarious. Intuitive. Depends on which you choose to believe. I can't possibly think of how a person can describe oneself in just one whole paragraph. 26 years on, and I still think the dictionary has yet to come up with words to describe a person like me. Food is all you need to appease me for some time. The ultimate substance of knowledge blows me over.

Have fun reading and feel free to contact me if you would like to send me on a All-Paid Trip around the world.
